Artwork by Cherry Hood
I realize I may use "haunting" too often, but it seems appropriate to describe the work of Australian artist Cherry Hood, whose subjects often are adolescent boys. Under her brush, they are transformed into unnerving ethereal figures with piercing eyes; they become watercolor wraiths, with cadaverous pallors and forlorn expressions.
Man, kids creep me out.

I have never been creeped out by small children...to me, the little ones are a source of joy and inspiration, but adolescent boys do unnerve me tremendously. Boys more than girls (perhaps simply beause I was a girl).
ReplyDeleteI think it's just that period of life, as adolecents are not children, nor are they adults, but the memories of childhood are more recent in the back of their minds, and the insecurities about adulthood are in the forefront.
Few things are more frightening to me than a twelve year old boy.
Actaully, right now I can't think of anything scarier.
That's why I've never been able to watch "The Good Son" even though I have heard that is is a few hours of suck and not at all scary.
I actually thought The Good Son was pretty decent.
ReplyDeleteDid you?
ReplyDeleteWell, now that I think about it, the people who told me it was awful also told me "Dangerous Liasons" was great, so I probably shouldn't trust them.
Though I still won't watch it. Caulkins are scary enough.
Hm. Well, I love Dangerous Liaisons, so make of that what you will.
ReplyDeleteI like Dangerous Liasons, too. But not as much as Cruel Intentions!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing worse than Cruel Intentions is the sequel.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I saw a bit of the sequel and did not like it. I honestly do like the original, though. Not as good film, of course, but as nasty little pleasure.
ReplyDeleteGood Heavens, that's what I meant! I intended to say Cruel Intentions but was thinking that it was a horrible hash of Dangerous Liasons and that's why I said it.
ReplyDeleteOkay: old boyfriend who hated The Good Son loved Cruel Intentions, so I should not take his movie reviews all that seriously.
Sam...I have so many things that I could say after that "nasty little pleasure" comment, but I refrain so you will retain your position of respect in the blogosphere.
You are welcome.
